EmergentRI Guardian — privacy
The browser extension. Effective 17 October 2026. Plain words; nothing hidden in the long version, because there is no long version.
What it does
Guardian looks at two things before they run: every program you download and every browser extension you add. It pauses the item, asks our reviewer whether it is safe, and tells you in plain words. You always have the final say. Our own files are recognised as ours; everything else — including ours if it is not on our list — is judged like a stranger's.
What it sends, and to whom
For each download or new extension, Guardian sends one small review request to https://emergentri.com/api/guardian/review (our own server, nobody else's) containing:
- for a download: the file name, the web address it came from, the address of the page you were on, the file's size and type, and its SHA-256 fingerprint if the browser has it;
- for an extension: its name, id, version, what permissions it asks for, and its store page if known.
That is all. It does not send the file itself, your browsing history, the contents of pages, your passwords, cookies, or anything you type. It does not read pages at all — it has no content script.
What it keeps
- On your computer only: a list of the last 300 verdicts (file or extension name, verdict, time) so the popup can show you what it decided. Clearing it is one click in the popup, or remove the extension.
- On our server: the review request and the verdict, with your IP address, in a plain log, kept 90 days so we can improve the reviewer and spot new scams. If you open a security case with us and agree to it, the indicators (never your name) may be kept longer in our casebook.
What it never does
- Never sells or shares your data with anyone. There are no advertisers, no analytics companies, no "partners".
- Never deletes a file. A download that finished before the verdict is left where it is; you are told not to open it.
- Never runs anything on your computer. It can only pause, ask, and tell you.
- Never requires an account. Signing in with your EmergentRI account is optional and only attaches your reviews to your own account page.
Permissions, and why
- downloads — to see a download start and pause it until it is reviewed.
- management — to see a new extension arrive, turn it off until it is reviewed, and turn it back on when you say so.
- notifications — to tell you the verdict.
- storage — the local list of verdicts.
- tabs — only to know the address of the page a download came from (never its content).
- emergentri.com — the one place it talks to.
